For a change I decided to do a post on all the Kmart stores in the Greater Toledo, Ohio area. As a whole we feature six Kmart stores in this post; two remain open as Kmart, one operates as a Sears Outlet, another is now re-used as another store, yet another lies abandoned, while the last has been demolished leaving behind an empty lot. It seems pretty sad that only two out of the six Kmart stores are still open in Toledo.
To start off we have the two operating Kmart stores in Oregon (suburb to the east of Toledo) and Toledo (Alexis Road on the north side of Toledo)
Here is a map of the stores that are in this post.
This store opened in the mid to late 1960s and is one of only two remaining Kmart stores in the Toledo area. This store originally had an attached Kmart Foods store. In the 1990s this store had a garden center added onto the front. this store is 107,495 square feet.

This store opened in the mid to late 1970s. This store opened right after the Kmart Food stores closed down, so instead an independent grocery store was built attached to this store. The attached grocery store has since closed. This store is the only remaining Kmart in Toledo's city limits. The store is 84,180 square feet.

This Kmart opened in 1967 and closed in 2006. This Kmart originally had an attached Kmart Foods store. This store started being demolished in December 2012, after sitting empty for six years. There are plans for a CarMax to open here, but that will likely take another year or two to open (most likely sometime in 2014).
As of January 2013 this Big Kmart sign was still standing, but its days are numbered.
The Kmart store itself came down in December 2012.
No more Kmart here.
The Kmart Service Center still stands, but its days are numbered too.

I can't believe the way that Sears Outlet Store looks. It looks like its Curtains for Kmart as Batman would say. That store was set up like a Fly By Night Flea Market
ReplyDeleteI heard K Dollar is similar, but I have not been to one yet or know of any near me.
DeleteJust today alone I've heard two people mention this K Dollar store. I'm trying to get in touch with the other person talking about it to get more information about it and maybe pictures? I'm so intrigued by it! Not going to hold my breath about getting pictures though. :(
DeleteSadly, this is all I found on K Dollar.

At the Kmart #3 - 27322 Carronade Drive, Perrysburg, Ohio the street pylon sign is near a Panera Bread pylon sign that is formerly a Ponderosa Steakhouse.
ReplyDeleteFinally an article talking about K Dollar! Article has a few pictures, but no inside pictures, sadly.

Why did so many in the Toledo area close
ReplyDeleteToledo KMarts are DUMPS!
ReplyDeleteYou should do an aryicle about the Kmart & Sears stores in Cincinnati, Ohio
ReplyDeletePlease make an article about the Kmart stores in Metro Detroit. I would be proud if you did that. Plus, it's not too far away from Toledo.
ReplyDeleteFOr Cincinnati, how come there are only 2 left in that area. There used to be around a dozen or more.
